Overview

Chai Village, nestled in the heart of Canton Township, Michigan, is a vibrant Indian restaurant that brings an authentic slice of Indian culinary heritage to the Midwest. Located conveniently on Cherry Hill Road, this eatery is more than just a place to eat — it is a cultural experience crafted with warmth, passion, and genuine hospitality.

From the moment you step inside, the cozy ambience blends traditional Indian cafe and dhaba culture with a clean, inviting atmosphere. The décor evokes homely nostalgia, making it an ideal spot for those craving authentic Indian street foods and snacks, especially for the Indian diaspora yearning for tastes from back home. Chai Village is a true comfort zone for families, friends, and anyone eager to explore rich regional flavors.

The culinary highlights here are impressive. The Benne Dosa stands out as a crowning jewel—crispy on the outside, soft inside, and enhanced with the luscious buttery finish that transports you straight to Bengaluru’s bustling streets. Locals and visitors alike rave about this dish, making it a must-try for dosa enthusiasts. Complementing this is the Pav Bhaji, a richly spiced, buttery vegetable mash served with soft buns, perfectly balancing comfort and authenticity.

Chai Village doesn't just stop at mains; their snacks and sweets are equally commendable. The Maska Bun melts in your mouth with a delightful blend of butter and sweetness, evoking feelings of the timeless Indian bakery experience. Among beverages, the Kadak Chai truly honors its name — strong, thick, and infused with real tea leaf essence, providing an energizing sip that pairs beautifully with their savory snacks. In addition, the Thalis, Tiffins, and Malai Buns beckon to be savored, with many customers eager to return and explore these offerings.

Service here is more than efficient—it’s personal. The owners frequently engage with guests like extended family, enhancing the dining experience beyond just food. Their attentiveness translates into recommendations, helping newcomers navigate a robust menu laden with traditional favorites and regional specialities. This makes Chai Village a perfect fit for those seeking an intimate, authentic dining environment that balances rich Indian flavors with a warm welcome.

While the majority of reviews praise the food’s authenticity and the welcoming space, some guests have noted minor inconsistencies—such as variations in the benne dosa’s texture or the masala chai’s preparation. However, the overall enthusiasm for the food quality and hospitality speaks volumes about Chai Village’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.

Beyond the restaurant, Chai Village extends its offerings through catering options, making it an excellent choice for gatherings that demand authentic Indian snacks and sweets. Whether you're after a quick, delicious bite or a carefully crafted event menu, they deliver with grace and flavor.

In summary, Chai Village offers a compelling blend of authenticity, cultural nostalgia, and culinary delight in Canton Township. Its focus on traditional Indian fare, coupled with a genuine, homely ambiance and thoughtful service, makes it an essential destination for anyone hungry for a true taste of India in Michigan. If you value rich flavors, sincere hospitality, and a menu that celebrates India’s diverse street food and regional dishes, Chai Village stands ready to impress.

I usually take photos of my food, but didn't this time because everything was so delicious, I barely had time to click photos! It goes to show how great this place is! Absolutely epic food, right here in Canton, heck even across the state of Michigan! Not an understatement when they mention people coming in all the way from Kalamazoo or Benton Harbor for this kind of authentic taste & flavor! The owners make everyone feel right at home, whether it be by helping through the menu, stopping by and checking on how the food is, or taking care of their guests like family, this place makes you experience how cafe & dhaba culture back home really is like! What we had and how we rate them: Peri Peri Fries - 10/10 - Nice hint of peri peri powder, on crisp and well done potato fries Kadak Chai - 10/10 - You can actually taste the essence of the tea leaves and the thickness of the concoction Maska Bun - 99/10 - Been a while since I've had such an amazing maska bun, heck even the ones in India fall flat many times. This here was epic, buttery, sweet and melted in my mouth! Absolute flavor bomb, packed in an appropriate portion size! One wont do enough; order a bunch and feel satisfied! Pav Bhaji - 9/10 - Simple, homely, flavorful with the right mix of spices and butter Benne Dosa - 99/10 - Reminds you of exactly how food back in Bengaluru is! The spice mix, the crispness of the dosa complemented by its soft inner texture, the sambar that is simply out of the world, and the benne aka butter to top it off! Heavenly flavor, authentic af; been to many Kannada restaurants across the US, and this has to take the winners medal for the best authentic benne dosa! Alfredo Pasta - 9/10 - Simple, cozy, cheesy for those cold Michigan nights Molten Lava Cake - 10/10 Served in style, with a nice mushy warm soft chocolate cake, and a cone full of chocolate ice cream melting away at the cake, to come home and pack an insane flavor to finish the meal off! What we would definitely recommend based on what we ate/saw: Benne Dosa Malai Bun Pav Bhaji Thali & tiffins - Will try next time Sambar Rice - Will try next time Veggie Maharaja Burger - Will try next time Bombay Sandwich - Will try next time Did I mention benne dosa and malai bun! And much more... Thanks again for a great time! Please keep doing this for everyone in Michigan, that wants to experience what being home in India feels like, right in the heart of Michigan, USA!

Good response and service Ambience is very good with traditional Indian vibes. For someone who is missing Indian snacks and ginger chai , this is the best place. They are yet to add more items to menu. So far Paratha and planner samosa are good.

I recently visited Chai Village and had a somewhat mixed experience. The ambience was definitely one of the highlights it was clean, well-maintained, and had a cozy vibe that makes it a nice place to relax or catch up with friends. I really liked the punugulu and chutney; they were fresh, crispy, and flavorful. However, the benne dosa did not meet my expectations, as the taste and texture were not as authentic as I hoped. I was particularly disappointed with the masala chai, which tasted quite off and wasn’t enjoyable. Overall, while the ambience was good, the food quality felt inconsistent and could definitely be improved.

We had ordered an Eggless Vanilla Buttercream cake recently. It was Awesome. They made the cake with our expected design within a short notice, and had on time delivery too. The cake was delicious and we received a couple of compliments for its design and flavor from our friends. The intricate details they had provided in packaging is also commendable. Apart from the cake, the authentic Indian food that is being served from street food varieties to parathas to dosa/idly are very tasty and reasonably priced. Mix bhajji, Aloo Paratha and Chola Bhatura are always on our menu along with Masala tea. The people over here are friendly too. It is a must visit cafe for our son during the weekends.

We’ve been here a few times now and absolutely love the cozy desi café vibe. The food has been consistently on point - the benne dosa and aloo parathas are must-tries, imo. My husband never skips the chai and usually ends up ordering a second cup by the time we’re done, which says a lot about how good it is The hospitality is warm and welcoming, everything is made fresh, and we’re genuinely happy to support this new local spot.
